Starting off the week with a little colorful animation, today's artist is Marina Zurkow. Typically for her practice, her exhibition MORE&MORE was based on extensive research on the impact of humans on nature--in this case through global shipping. If you look closely at the animation, you can see the ship arriving and being loaded with a shipping container. The animation is driven by custom algorithmic software programmed to include, in real time, changing weather, the rising and setting sun, and the cycles of the moon--global trade is relentless and unceasing. The chart on the wall is the Harmonized Commodity Shipping and Coding System, the language of global shipping. When everything is reduced to commodities and codes, what impact does that have on the planet? marinazurkow whatisthecostofcapitalism endlesscirculationofgoods harmonizedsystemofexploitation ecoart animation newmedia newmediaart 5womenartists 25womenartists pictureoftheday @squirrelzurkow @bitforms
